Wilderness Week on Your own!
A complete holiday-week in North-Carelia, not only for experienced hardcore-outdoor-people, but for everybody who enjoys nature and an active way of experiencing it! We combine 2 days hiking on the northern part of famous Bears Trail “Karhunpolku” with a day off and 3 days canoeing on rivers Jongunjoki and Lieksanjoki as well as on lake Pankajärvi. 3 nights in wilderness cabins, tent or windshelters, 4 nights in the cosy guesthouse of Eräkeskus.
Weekprogram day by day
Day 1 | Individual arrival at Eräkeskus; move into your room, before we serve you a tasty dinner. |
Day 2 | After breakfast you pack your needed things for 2 days hiking into your backpack and we drive you to the northern end of Hiking trail "Karhunpolku". From there you have an easy hike of 14 km to the Valama-wilderness-cabin, where you can have overnight. You cook on open fire and maybe you enjoy a refreshing swim in River Valama just outside the cabin. |
Day 3 | Enjoy breakfast outside the cabin, before you continue your hike on the well marked trail south. We collect you at the hanging bridge of rapids Pälvekoskiafter approx. 12 km hiking and bring you back to the lodge. Dinner and overnight at Eräkeskus. |
Day 4 | Your day off for own activities. You can use rowing boat, SUP, bikes or fishing gear for free. Breakfast, dinner and overnight in Eräkeskus, lunch outside wherever you are. |
Day 5 | After breakfast you pack all your gear in waterproof barrels and bags and we help you loading the canoe or kayak. You start for your 3-day-paddling-trip just outside the lodge on Lake Nurmijärvi. Only the ending point is defined, but not where you have overnight, where you eat and which islands and parts of rivers/lakes you explore. We help you beforehand to plan your trip and with the provided map you will find your way without problems. Overnight in tent, cooking on fire or with the cooker. |
Day 6 | 2nd day of your paddling trip on the North-Carelian Rivers and Lakes. |
Day 7 | We agreed beforehand at what time we pick you up at the border of nature resort Ruunaa. From there we drive you back by car to Eräkeskus, where you return all your equipment. After that maybe a relaxing sauna on the lakeside? Dinner and overnight in the Lodge. |
Day 8 | Breakfast in the lodge and then it is time to say good-bye! Individual departure back home or to your next destination. |
